WearOS app stops in the background

So I have everything set up and working on my Pixel Watch 2, when I leave the app open it keeps my display on and tracks my HR. My problem is that I want to conserve battery and prefer my watch to not have the display always on, so I go back to the home screen and let the display timeout and lock. A few seconds after the watch locks and the display turns off HypeRate stops tracking my HR despite it still showing up on my home screen and is still being measured. I tried enabling every possible permission on the app like allowing sensors all the time and disabling pausing app activity if unused. I'm not seeing any setting phrased like allowing it to run in the background, any ideas?

Heya! Sadly this behavior is coming from the operating system (not the app itself) - its a "known" issue for some OS'es - I remember that this was also the case for FitBit / ZeppOS. So we cant help you with this topic sadly :(
